Student Transition Plans

On June 10, 2024, the School Board voted (5-2) to close Dr. Bessie Rhodes School of Global Studies after the 2025-2026 school year. The school will remain in operation and fully supported until the time the closure goes into effect. The rationale for the building closure of Bessie Rhodes is outlined in the resolution (English | Spanish) passed by the board.

Student Transition Plans

There was nothing easy about the difficult decision made to close a beloved school. The District 65 team is committed to being transparent, collaborative, and finding creative opportunities to meaningfully connect with all families as part of our transition planning. We are excited for our K-5 and 6-8 grade students to stay together as cohorts when the new, state of the art school in the Fifth Ward opens.

In April, the Multilingual Services Team presented transition plans for Bessie Rhodes students. The information presented includes the options available for where students may attend school following the closure.
